Review: The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence

The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence
The Zodiac Legacy: Convergence by Stan Lee
My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Sadly I have to rate this…Even worse, I finally just decided to move it to the DNF list. I tried. I did. All the way to 30%…

I had such high hopes for this book. Something that I was hoping was X-Men in a whole new light. *heavy sigh* But what it was…

UGH. Frustrating.

The first chapter was good. Steven was on a trip to China with his school. His friends and him were all playing around. The Shipan display went missing. And then it fell apart like a perfectly balled yarn dropping on the floor and rolling and rolling until it created this impossible knot.

I get it. They needed the action and intensity of a major event to take Steven into the next level, but what it did was confuse me. Too many names being tossed around with the same descriptors being used over and over…because there were like fifty things going on all at once. This person, that person, these people…and it was a mess to read. I understand a lot of characters, but do some of these non-essentials really need names right now? Personally, no. Maybe later, if this character came back around, Steven could recognize that the person was there in the beginning…Easy.

This sort of read like a younger YA, but the tangle is difficult for an adult to follow. At least for me.

Now, there is art included in this story. And it’s placement within the text (I have the Kindle version) interrupted the dialogue or actions…it didn’t add, it subtracted.

The powers the characters were receiving all come from the Chinese Zodiac/folklore. SO MUCH POTENTIAL! I felt like it was wasted. Every new person who developed (or was destined to have these powers—not really clear) seemed to have the same thing. By the fourth person, it was like I had already read it. New power, can’t control it, have aura of the animal their power comes from…again, and again, and again…and so on.

Maybe someday I’ll come back to this? Maybe not. I wish there was something more to like. The Black Widow YA was great! The Cap prose novel was great! This…*SMH*…I think it would have been a million times better as a graphic novel. I’m just heartbroken about the DNF.

*I NEED A HERO READ – MAY 2016* Going to start June’s read a little earlier than planned.
