Review: The Walking Dead, Vol. 04: The Heart’s Desire

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

If there’s one thing I know, it’s high drama. And this book is fully packed with it!

I’m not speaking about the walkers, though they are still zombie’ing about. I’m talking the characters. The Michonne-Tyrese-Carol thing. The Rick and Tyrese thing. Lori being a little more intense. It doesn’t want to stop here.

It’s as intense as the show. The characters are the same yet so very different. I was expecting a character to do a certain thing or act a certain way…and the book just totally flipped them on me. Which is really good, because a surprise here and there–outside of the way the characters look–is refreshing!

In zombie times, fresh air is a commodity. Enjoy it while you have it.

So I am going to leave book 4 before I can spoil any of the events that just didn’t happen in the show. My jaw was dropped and I want to talk about it…

I’ll leave it with Volume 4 is the best beyond Volume 1, so far.

Review: The Walking Dead, Vol. 03: Safety Behind Bars

We’re at the prison already? Book 3? This is going way too fast.

I think by now, the main story of what I know is entirely different than what I’m reading. Yes, there is a prison, convicts, Walkers, fencing, Lori pregnant… It’s toddling along from winter into summer. They make all these extravagant plans for the prison. It’s their sanctuary.

It feels safe. Just like the show, safe secure, then all hell broke loose… So I’m expecting that for book 4. But for book three, it was nice to have somewhat a normal life so other dramas could come about. The appearance of Michonne was fantastic. Her story is somewhat different. And Carol isn’t the person I know now. Carl…LOL…

I’m trying to avoid spoilers. It’s difficult to balance some of the “people” between what I’m reading and what I’ve seen. It is VERY MUCH a different world.

Review: The Walking Dead, Vol. 02: Miles Behind Us

The Walking Dead, Vol. 02: Miles Behind Us

I’m flirting with three and a half stars for this volume of TWD.

It’s the first “winter” I’ve experienced in the land of Walkers. Snow. Everything is cold. Food is becoming scarce. And the Walkers are freezing too. The seasonal changes make for a better story overall.

But, that being said, it’s difficult to get into the Greene farm portion of this story. No Beth, though I knew she wasn’t in the books before. Maggie is the middle of six children. Herschel is a royal pain…but then I didn’t like him in the beginning on the show, either. It’s who he is, I guess.

I don’t know. It felt like time was flying by way too fast. Blink one, they’re at the farm. Blink two, and they’re leaving the farm. Not really too much of a story being told in this one. Not for me. And maybe it’s because I watched the shows first. I’ve been conditioned to expect so much in so little time… Except that one season…

Oh, and another thing eating at me about this book…

In the show, they never, not once, EVER called these “dead” zombies. It was always Walkers. But here:

Sorta not the same. And I miss Tyrese so much.

*A WALKING DEAD READ ~ OCTOBER 2016* It’s moving so fast. At this rate, I’ll have to stop reading at issue 7?
