My mother would kill me if she knew I read a book with the upside-down star in a circle on it…*shrugs*… But I really enjoyed this one. FOUR STARS!
DOn’t let the pink cheery cover fool you, this book was mental. As soon as you think one thing is set to happen…Nope. It was something else you probably hadn’t considered. I was thisclose, twice, to shelving this thing in the freezer, a la Joey Tribani.
Sofia Flores is the new girl in school. A career military brat who knows the ins and outs of being the new kid. Someone who can classify and group people with ease at her new school. She usually saddles herself with an outcast or two, but when she most to this Alabama town, she winds up with what most of us would call the populars. (Mean Girls?)
The problem is, the are judgey and holier tan thou and so religious, they can’t see straight. In their minds, Sofia’s first choice for a friend, Brooklyn Stevens, is a devil worshipper who must be exorcised.
But like I say, don’t let the surface of someone’s appearance fool you. Judge them on their soul.
But because Sofia didn’t…the story just spiraled out of control. And I mean that in the most complementary way possible! I mean…*shivers*…it was intense and so good. And freaky. And stressful…think of a whole ton of true horror stories: Rosemary’s Baby or The Omen…and it’s along those lines… Just so creepy and out there. *shivers* Ugh.
My internal war is waging as to whether I’ll read the next two books (though only one of the two is out now) or not. I have to wait until I’m not going to freak out in the dark or something to read them. I’m not lighting any candles ever…
HIGHLY ENJOYABLE!!! Definitely worth a read.
